Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was not what I thought it would be, even though I’m not sure what I was expecting. For starters, the game has a certain 90′s nostalgic feeling due to the fighting styles and graphics.

So you have the “Offline Mode” where you can play the Arcade, Versus, Training and the Mission. The Arcade, Versus and Training speaks for themselves, but the mission mode is kind of interesting. The missions are not a campaign like story mode, but in fact just combo based training for each character in the game, this is actually a good thing as the combos in this game can be really tricky and hard to do. The Arcade part were, I would say, too short, but hey, I always think that in every fighting game I play, it might just be me that wish it didn’t end there. But on the other hand, since you can’t save the progress and continue later on, it’s understandable that it is so short after all. There are one new free dlc in this game that works like a fusion of Arcade and Story Mode and that’s the Heroes and Heralds mode. I will come back to this mode later on.

Xbox Live:

This is where you can fight against other people either in a ranked match or just a player match, or create a lobby with others to fight; the only problem is that it seems no one’s playing this game online. Although the leader board tells you otherwise, I can’t find a match regardless of my search criteria. It’s a shame though, Capcom and Marvel really tries to get this franchise to continue and get people more involved by having the online part.

Heroes and Heralds:

This is a new and special mode for the Capcom vs. Marvel games. It’s a card deck game mode where you have a deck of cards with different attributes on them to power up your set of fighters. As you play the “Offline Mode” you will earn cards new cards after each win you have and with these cards you create your own deck of cards that maybe will suit your style better than the default one. Also you have to choose whether you want to be a bad guy and destroy the world or maybe be the savior of the world. Either way, you still have the same fighters to choose from. I mentioned earlier that this mode is a fusion of Arcade and Story mode – the reason for that is that your progress is saved after each fight and you have originally 7 areas to fight on. You can unlock secret areas if you get a full row on the hit list (Kind of like Bingo setup). Each area has their own rate of total percentages you will gain or lose depending on how you did it in the match. There is also an online part in this mode as well, but yet again there’s nobody to challenge there either.

I think it’s kind of cool that you have a team of 3 fighters that you can use in a match, either alone or using all three in combo series or special attacks. This gives the game an edge and makes it more fun to play, and I have to say that I had to give it some time and let it grow on me before I thought it was a really entertaining game. But this came after I tried the different characters and experienced their super attacks and combos, and I got to say that some of the attacks made me laugh pretty hard.

There’s one thing I have to complaint about, and that’s the music. The music can be somewhat annoying with the same repeating melody over and over again; fortunately this is only played for a short while if you’re fast enough in the menus. You can also either choose other melodies for the different menus, or just simply turn the menu melody off.

Conclusion: It’s an entertaining game and I think it would suit most gamers, especially those who love this genre.

Rating: 6/10 It’s a game that will challenge you.

Wargame: European Escalation, the explosive real-time strategy game developed for PC by Eugen Systems (R.U.S.E.™, Act of War), offers players the control, through armed conflict between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, of more than 360 different units and vehicles faithfully modeled after those used during the 1975/85 period.

Through 8 exclusive screenshots, we unveil today the 180 different units composing NATO forces. Players will be able to select and recruit them to form their army, both in solo and in multiplayer, thanks to an original and innovative ‘Deck’ system.

In Wargame: European Escalation, 4 nations from NATO take part in the battles raging. Discover on today’s screenshots American, British, West-German and French units.

This makes for a total of 180 different units (tanks, infantry, helicopters, support vehicles, etc) all modeled after their real-life counterparts, that you can see in today’s screenshots. Wargame’s powerful engine, the IRISZOOM™, animates all these units on incredibly huge maps as big as 150 square kilometers (60mi²), which display over 100 million scenery objects. Battles end up being as spectacular as they are realistic and deeply strategic, while hundreds of vehicles, infantry, and helicopters battle fiercely over the warzone!

For the occasion, the official website opens today its Database section, which allows players to discover in detail all the game’s units, their characteristics as well as a video animation representing them.

This is a great opportunity to start planning your army in time for the game’s release at the end of February 2012!
