It’s an ok story with the usual good guys (the renegades) vs. the bad guy (inferno), but the game it self has only 9 missions. At least it seems like they have made an effort making the story and game play, with huge explosions and cool tactical advantages like air strikes, EMP’s and so on. You have 4 different characters to choose between, and each character have their own tactical advantage. The game has three difficulty levels, casual, medium and hard, choosing casual means that you can’t upgrade your vehicle, gain new levels and so on. For that, you have to play on Normal, not that it’s any harder though.
Not all the experience points you gain with one character can be used on another one. This is probably to avoid “cheating” if you go high with one character and don’t use the upgrade points on him/her, but instead could have used it on a low-level character. Through the game, you will pick up some weapon upgrades and secondary weapons; this will not follow you to the next mission unless you have the right upgrades on your vehicle from the start. I found one very annoying thing in this game and that is the “General”, who they obviously wanted to be a badass general. The only problem is that in my opinion they over-did it, and in the end, it kind of looks ridiculous. The Multiplayer part is just the same as single player, but you can play it with other people. So I think the word matches are wrong to use, as you don’t play against other, but with them instead.
Conclusion: It’s a relatively short game with 9 missions, and you will use about 15 to 25 minutes to complete each one. The game wouldn’t be my first choice, but to be fair, it’s an arcade game after all.
A battle support attack aircraft deployed by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It emulates the F-16C in airframe shape, but it is equipped with the latest electronic equipment while having the same easy handling and a complete upgrade of maneuvering performance. In order to be prepared for threats from the sea, its anti-warship battle ability is given special consideration. The airframe was remodeled and developed jointly by Japan and the United States, and it is also called the “Viper Zero.”
Ace Combat Assault Horizon F-2A
A true multi-role fighter employed by five countries, including the Swedish Air Force. With these capabilities, it can use a highway to make a sortie from a hangar dug into a mountain, and it can easily handle a variety of missions by capitalizing on its effortless maneuverability. Its formal name is “JAS-39C.” JAS stands for Jakt (fighter), Attack, and Spaning (reconnaissance) because the aircraft is able to perform all these roles, and to switch between all three roles in the air. Its nickname is “Gripen (griffin).”
Ace Combat Assault Horizon Gripen C
Developed as an advanced air force aircraft, this tailless delta style, small combat aircraft is in service in several countries including the French Air Force. Its light weight results in excellent acceleration performance. The most recent model, the Mirage 2000-5, has improved multiple targeting capabilities from its RDY radar, and it is also furnished with such features as a modernized cockpit gauge, all of which rapidly elevate its combat potential. Its nickname is “Mirage.”
Ace Combat Assault Horizon Mirage 2000-5
This high performance, omnirole, carrier-based aircraft is the pride of the French Navy. Possessing high level acceleration and turning performance, and equipped with a large quantity of arms including multi lock-on, air-to-air missiles, and long-range dispenser weapons, this craft plays a large role in any kind of air-to-ground or air-to-air mission. Called by the name “Rafale (squall),” its elegant delta and canard wings, and superb aerodynamically shaped air-intake, are distinguishing characteristics.
Ace Combat Assault Horizon RafaleM
A state-of-the-art, superior fighter that was developed through a collaboration between Great Britain, Germany, Spain, and Italy. Excellent maneuverability and multi lock-on weaponry make dogfights against numerous opponents its specialty. The combination of the canard wing, called a close-coupled delta, and the delta wing give it great aerodynamics and agility befitting the name “Typhoon.”

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (December 1, 2010) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® America Inc., are pleased to announce Binary Domain™, an original squad-based shooter by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator behind some of SEGA’s most well-known video game franchises, including the critically acclaimed Yakuza series. Binary Domain puts players in the middle of a fast-paced and intense battle for humanity in robot-invaded 2080 Tokyo. Fighting through the derelict lower levels of the city, players control an international peace-keeping squad that soon starts to question their surroundings and the choices they made. Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?
“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama” commented Toshihiro Nagoshi. “The keyword we have in mind for this project is “Life”. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows, but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”
Binary Domain’s central theme of life is also key to the way the innovative AI system is being developed. The highly advanced AI will make the battlefield a more compelling experience than ever before and players will have to plan their moves strategically and carefully in order to progress through the hostile environments of the game.
“We are excited and proud to have Toshihiro Nagoshi working on Binary Domain,” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of Europe and SEGA of America. “The game is being developed in Japan yet it is designed for a global audience and will take players into an exhilarating story wrapped into a unique, action-packed shooter experience in a fresh new setting.”
The Consequence system:
What is it?
Consequence is a gameplay system unique to Binary Domain that combines gameplay elements and AI to create different in-game experiences based on your actions, your choices and your words. The fundamental element of The Consequence System is trust.
Certain actions will raise a characters trust and others will lower it. These reactions take place both in combat and when talking to your team outside of the missions.
Conversation can be divisive, often setting one squad member against another, and your choices will have an impact on their opinions of you and their actions throughout the story of Binary Domain.
This isn’t a simple choice of go it alone or work as a team, each squad member has a different personality and will respond differently to your actions, meaning there’s no right and wrong, just your way of play.
How do you influence it?
The Consequence system allows you to speak to characters directly using a headset: Issuing orders, responding to dialogue and holding conversations. The game features voice recognition in 6 languages. And for those who need a little quiet while they play, you can also use the gamepad to issue orders and hold conversation.
It’s also as much about what you do as what you say. Charging forward alone, covering your friends or leaving them exposed can have different consequences beyond the obvious. Some characters might respect you acting alone, proving yourself as a leader. Others will damn you for breaking ranks and not following orders. It all depends on you reading your team, and their opinion of you.
What makes it different?
Unlike other games with dialogue or personality systems Binary Domain’s Consequence System is not a simple choice of good or bad or right and wrong.
You’re not being asked to choose between a clearly good and a clearly bad response at random plot points. Your constant attitude to the people in your squad and catering to (or Not) their personality in both dialogue and combat affect their views of you.
Consequence is an iterative system that builds based on your actual in-game behaviour, aggression, courage, cowardice, pace and your dialogue with the other members of your squad.
Binary Domain is being developed by SEGA Japan and Yakuza-creator Toshihiro Nagoshi for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. For more information on SEGA games please visit www.sega.com
